How much do you charge?

We charge £120 per hour for the aircraft calculated to the nearest five minutes, that means if you fly for only 50 minutes, that's what you pay for. If you land somewhere other than Leuchars you will be responsible for paying any landing fee directly to the airfield operator.

If you need an instructor, they will charge £30 per hour in addition to the aircraft fee. As with the aircraft, charges are pro-rata but with a minimum charge of one hour. Ground school, if needed, is charged at the same rate.

Do you charge a membership fee?

The membership fee is £120 per annum. We do not charge membership fees for trial flights and passengers are exempt, although they will still have to join as temporary members for the duration of their flight.

How do I pay?

We prefer payment by electronic bank transfer, since this is the easiest and quickest way. We will provide you with our bank details when you fly with us.

Our rates are very reasonable as they are but we offer a cheaper rate to junior ranks ie corporal and below. For members in this category the cost is reduced to £110 per hour. We also have our own version of frequent flyer, known as Pay Now Fly Later (PNFL). If you pay £550 up front you get five hours of flying at a reduced rate, saving £10 per hour. Please note that there is no PNFL reduction for junior ranks.

Can I learn to fly using Enhanced Learning Credits?

Yes, but due to changes in CAA regulations and in ELCAS status, Leuchars Flying Club is not currently in a position to offer ab initio PPL training.  We may be able to do so in a few months time but this is not guaranteed. Other RAFSA clubs may currently provide training using your ELC.

Are there any other incentives?

Yes, Leuchars Flying Club is affiliated to the Royal Air Force Sports Aircraft Association (RAFSA). This brings a variety of advantages from being able to fly into other military bases with no landing fees or handling costs, to accessing equipment to enhance your flying experience. In addition, the club is entitled to send representatives to the various RAFSA sponsored events such as aerobatic competitions.
